Request a New Zealand Data Recovery Quote
A useful request records the storage device, fault symptoms, earlier attempts, priority files and practical timing requirements.
Case evidence
Build the quote request around reliable facts
Identify the storage device, failure history, previous attempts and the data that would make recovery worthwhile.
State what failed, how the problem appeared, what has been tried and which files are essential. These facts allow the enquiry to be scoped without suggesting a price or outcome that the evidence cannot yet support.
Datastrophe reviews the media type, symptoms, write risk, urgency, priority data and known limitations. A precise account reduces unnecessary handling and makes the later commercial decision easier to understand.
- Describe the result the quote needs to cover
- Separate essential files from the full stored volume
- Provide facts that can be checked during examination
Facts used to frame the work
The review connects the reported incident with device behaviour, data priorities and any risk from further reads. Unknown factors remain marked as unknown until the device can be examined.
Why an early price may be provisional
The condition of the hardware, file-system metadata and encryption may change the method. A firm scope should not be implied while those factors remain unresolved.
Scope and risk
Details that can change the scope and price
Include every symptom that may affect the recovery method, required equipment, handling risk or volume of verification work.
Report unrecognised storage, missing files, impact damage, unusual sounds, a failed server, a broken USB flash drive or an inaccessible SSD. The response differs for a logical fault, unstable hardware and an operationally urgent incident.
State whether you need selected folders or a broader recovery. If you only need a preliminary non-binding figure, ask for an estimate; the quote should follow sufficient technical review.
- Name the exact storage system and capacity
- Explain whether targeted or full recovery is required
- Separate a non-binding estimate from a quote
Specialist handling affects scope
Physical work on a hard drive may require clean room handling in a data recovery laboratory. A DVR/NVR containing CCTV or security camera footage may require targeted extraction by date and channel.
Limits that affect the proposal
Unreadable regions, incomplete metadata, unavailable encryption credentials and unstable components can restrict both the recoverable scope and the checks that can be completed.
Preservation
Protect the source while seeking a quote
The request should rely on the existing incident record, not on further testing that may change the evidence or damage the source.
Avoid another repair, scan, rebuild or format attempt simply to gather more information for the request. Such activity may write to the source, alter useful structures or turn an intermittent physical fault into a more serious one.
Keep the failed storage media in their present state, record the symptoms and disclose every earlier action. This history helps distinguish the original incident from changes caused after the loss.
- Prevent new writes to the failed device
- Decline automatic repair or rebuild prompts
- Keep a record of each previous attempt
Information to record without retesting
Note error messages, noises, disconnections, liquid or impact exposure, software already used and any changes in behaviour. Photographs and written notes can preserve useful context without powering the device again.
Damage that cannot be priced away
No commercial proposal can reverse overwriting or physical destruction. The quote must retain any technical uncertainty rather than converting it into an unsupported promise.
Documented proposal
How technical findings become a quote
The quote should connect the observed fault with a defined recovery scope, relevant checks and practical return arrangements.
Datastrophe links the device condition, required file scope, recovery method, verification work and return arrangements. Together, these elements provide the technical basis for the quoted work.
Following a diagnostic assessment, the proposal should distinguish confirmed findings from remaining uncertainty. It should also explain the planned recovery steps and the basis for deciding whether to proceed.
- Show which findings support the proposed method
- Define how priority files will be checked
- Include the agreed secure handover method
What a clear quote records
The document should identify the proposed work, intended file scope, expected timeframe, applicable limits and arrangements for returning the recovered data.
What remains conditional
Some file damage or unreadable areas may only become apparent during extraction and verification. Those possibilities should remain visible in the case record.
Confidential scope
Sensitive information and commercial boundaries
Agree who may approve the work, receive updates and accept recovered files before sensitive content is examined or returned.
The device may contain personal, commercial, financial, health-related or otherwise sensitive files. The proposed scope should limit access to what the case requires and identify the authorised recipient.
Commercial clarity does not remove technical limits. Datastrophe cannot promise data from overwritten blocks, inaccessible encrypted areas or components that cannot produce readable information.
- Restrict access to the stated recovery purpose
- Use reliable media for the recovered data
- Record technical exclusions without ambiguity
Access follows the agreed purpose
File review should remain proportionate to verification needs. Communications, recovered media and return details should be controlled for the people authorised on the case.
Security and recoverability are separate
Secure processes protect the information that can be read. They do not change the physical state of the device, restore missing metadata or supply an unavailable encryption key.
Next action
Send a complete request before another attempt
Bring the case history, priority file list and contact details together, then submit them without altering the failed device.
Gather the device model and capacity, symptoms, incident date, earlier attempts, required files and genuine urgency. Add reliable contact and return details so the case can be followed without avoidable delay.
If the storage device is connected and unstable, shut it down safely where possible. Request a quote using the facts already available instead of running another test on the source.
- Leave unstable storage powered off where safe
- Identify the files needed for a useful result
- Provide complete approval and return details
Details to check before sending
Confirm the device identity, incident history, priority folders, relevant dates, authorised decision-maker and preferred contact method. Separate unrelated device failures into their own cases.
What the request can establish
The enquiry can identify immediate precautions and the review pathway. Only examination can establish whether the required files remain readable and intact.
Quotation
From a free quotation to an informed decision
Submitting the request does not start chargeable recovery; it prepares the diagnosis, evidence and decision.
The quotation, free laboratory diagnosis and private round-trip courier service are included at no charge. A private courier transports the sealed parcel only and does not process its data; Datastrophe performs the diagnosis, recovery and file checks directly in its laboratory.
Before payment, the New Zealand client receives the price and checked file list. The list uses recoverable_verified, partial, detected_unverified and unrecoverable, with recoverable_verified as the only status described as recoverable. Final recovery, result preparation and return begin after the New Zealand client accepts the list and price and pays.
If no usable data are found, recovery fails or the New Zealand client declines, no standard fee applies to intervention, transport, customs or return media. Only a rare, costly part can be ordered with separate, explicit, priced approval and remains non-refundable. The request can cover tablets and iPads as well as the listed storage systems.
- Free request and diagnosis
- Checked file list before payment
- Final work only after acceptance

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What should I prepare before I request a quote?
Submitting the form provides the details needed for a free quotation and laboratory diagnosis; it does not authorise chargeable recovery.
Does receiving a quote mean that every file is recoverable?
No. The likely scope depends on readable areas, later writes, available metadata, encryption and the physical condition found during the diagnostic assessment. The quote must preserve those technical limits.
Why does the request need a list of priority files?
The list defines what would make the recovery useful and guides verification. On fragile or high-capacity storage, locating the most important folders first can reduce risk and clarify value sooner.
Can the failed device return to normal use after recovery?
That is not the purpose of recovery. Usable files are extracted and returned on reliable separate media. A device involved in data loss should not be trusted again for production storage.
How should the quote describe technical limitations?
The checked file list and price are presented before payment. Final recovery begins after acceptance and payment, with no standard charge if there is no usable or accepted result.
