The recovery process begins by recording the device, the incident and the latest known working state. Clicking disks should remain powered down; flash media should not be reformatted; a degraded RAID should not be rebuilt before its member order and condition are documented.

The assessment should lead to a decision-ready recovery plan, not a vague promise. Findings describe the suspected failure, feasible method, expected recoverable scope, important uncertainties, estimated timing and the basis of the quote.

Where the evidence allows, a file list or folder view helps the client judge whether the result addresses the actual need. No paid recovery work begins until the proposed scope and conditions have been accepted.

If the plan is accepted

A quote is tied to the assessed device and agreed objective. It cannot guarantee files whose blocks are absent, overwritten, encrypted without a key or physically unreadable.

The estimate and free laboratory diagnosis come before any payment. Private round-trip transport is included. Before payment, the Canadian client receives the price and a checked file list using recoverable_verified, partial, detected_unverified and unrecoverable. Only recoverable_verified items are described as recoverable.

Payment is due only if the Canadian client accepts the file list and price. After payment, Datastrophe performs final recovery, prepares the result and arranges its return. If no usable data are found, final recovery fails or the Canadian client declines the list or price, no standard fee is due for the intervention, outbound transport, return transport, customs or standard return media. A rare, costly part is the only exception: it requires separate, explicit, priced approval and remains non-refundable even if recovery does not succeed.
